DBT for Parents Skill Group
During each monthly group meeting, we start with a Building Parental Wise Mind skill, followed by new skills that match our DBT for Parents program. Our two part program focus on key areas: Building stability, Transforming the transaction, Rebuilding the relationship and Influencing behavior, and Creating family balance. During each of these program areas we will introduce you to DBT for Parents skills that support emotional regulation, build distress tolerance, help with interpersonal relationships, and grows mindfulness using a parent focus lens. The skills are broken down into actionable steps, making it easy for you to understand and implement. You’ll then have the opportunity to bring a real-life family situation or challenge you’re facing to the group. Together, with feedback and discussion from fellow parents and group leaders, you’ll begin to develop a tailored skill plan to address your specific issue right away. This combination of learning and immediate application ensures that you leave each session empowered and ready to make positive changes.
This isn't just another parenting program—it's a chance to get hands-on with real-life challenges and create a personalized action plan to make meaningful changes in your family life. Experience the difference of a group designed to empower you with practical tools and connect you with other parents on the same journey.

The first 15 minutes of each group starts with building Parental Wise Mind skill or practice. Then the group leaders will teach core skills focusing on an area of the program you are on. These areas are designed based upon our DBT for Parents program model. These include managing emotions, responding to difficult and problematic behaviors, repairing the relationship, and communicating effectively, among others. For the remaining 15 minutes, parents can choose to place themselves on the agenda to discuss a specific interaction. Parents can use the Chain Analysis or the Transactional Model (taught during the DBT for Parents Foundational Workshop) to help guide the discussion and brainstorm solutions. Homework is given after each group to be completed between group sessions.

Group members can join following the completion of the DBT for Parents Foundational at the next entry point.
